A SUPERIOR SOLUTION
FOR BUNIONS
Lapipasty® 3D Bunion Correction
If you’re tired of the daily struggle with bunions, you’ve likely tried pads, splints, shoe inserts, and cortisone shots. These can help ease symptoms for a while — but they come with ongoing cost, hassle, and one big limitation: they don’t fix the root cause.
The truth is, your bunion isn’t just a bump — it’s an unstable joint that has rotated out of alignment in all three dimensions.
At Sarasota Foot Care Center, we offer the revolutionary Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction — the only procedure that fixes the root cause in all three dimensions, not just the bump.
-
Permanently corrects the misalignment at the base of the bone
-
Patented titanium plates allow immediate walking in a boot
-
97–99% success rate with virtually no recurrence
-
Back to regular shoes in weeks, not months
Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction Procedure
This advanced, patented procedure permanently corrects the root cause of your bunion in all three planes:
-
Precisely rotating the deviated bone back into its normal 3D alignment
-
Permanently securing the unstable joint with titanium plates (no more shifting)
-
Releasing or balancing surrounding tendons and ligaments as needed
Unlike traditional bunion surgery that only shaves the bump and cuts the bone (with high recurrence rates), Lapiplasty® fixes the foundation—so your bunion is gone for good.

WHAT IS A BUNION?
Left untreated, the bunion grows larger, more painful, and can lead to arthritis, overlapping toes, and chronic foot pain. The good news: it doesn’t have to be permanent.
A bunion is a painful bony bump that forms on the inside of the foot at the big toe joint. It occurs when the first metatarsal bone shifts out of place, causing the joint to become unstable and the big toe to angle toward the second toe.
This structural deformity is usually inherited and worsens over time due to:
-
Genetics and foot type (flat feet, loose ligaments)
-
Years of stress on the joint
-
Arthritis
-
Tight, narrow, or high-heeled shoes
Left untreated, the bunion grows larger, more painful, and can lead to arthritis, overlapping toes, and chronic foot pain. The good news: it doesn’t have to be permanent.
Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction FACT:
Women develop bunions 8–10 times more often than men, largely due to shoe gear. Studies show 23–35% of adults have bunions, with prevalence climbing sharply after age 60 – making it one of the most common foot deformities we treat. The great news: Lapiplasty® corrects the root instability permanently, with virtually no recurrence.
What
are the
Symptoms?
Bunions can make walking painful, impacting your ability to enjoy a vibrant lifestyle.
Some Symptoms Includes:
-
Pain or tenderness on the inside of the foot at the big toe joint (especially when wearing shoes)
-
A visible bump on the inside edge of the foot that gets larger over time
-
Redness, swelling, or warmth over the bunion
-
Thickened skin or callus over the bump from shoe pressure
-
Big toe turning inward toward (or even under/over) the second toe
-
Pain and stiffness in the big toe joint (hallux rigidus in later stages)
-
Corns or calluses on the second toe from overlapping
-
Difficulty finding comfortable shoes or walking barefoot on hard surfaces
-
In advanced cases: bursitis, arthritis, or open sores from constant rubbing

If you are experiencing the above symptoms, Sarasota Foot Care Center Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction Procedure may be right for you!

What is
LAPIPLASTY?
Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction – How It Works
Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction is an advanced surgical system that fixes the root cause of your bunion—not just the bump.
Traditional bunion surgery only shaves the bump and cuts the bone in 2D, which is why bunions come back in up to 70% of cases.
Lapiplasty® is different:
-
It corrects the entire metatarsal bone back to its normal alignment in all three dimensions
-
It permanently stabilizes the unstable joint at the base (the true source of the problem) using patented titanium plates
-
The correction is anatomic and secure—so the bunion can’t return
With specialized instruments and implants, the bone is rotated, realigned, and locked into place for a comprehensive, reliable, and in nearly every case permanent correction.

Lapiplasty vs Traditional 2D Osteotomy Surgery
Traditional Osteotomy (2D surgery)
-
Cuts and shaves the bump, then shifts the bone sideways
-
Does not fix the unstable joint at the base
-
Leaves the metatarsal bone rotated (the real root cause)
-
High recurrence rate – up to 70% of bunions return over time
Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction
-
Rotates the entire metatarsal bone back into its correct anatomic position in all three planes
-
Permanently stabilizes the unstable joint with titanium plates
-
Fixes the true root cause – not just the cosmetic bump
-
Virtually eliminates recurrence (97–99% long-term success)
Why settle for a temporary 2D fix when you can have a permanent 3D correction? Lapiplasty® – the proven, modern solution for bunions that never come back.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction?
LAPIPLASTY:
Candidates
You’re likely an excellent Lapiplasty® candidate if:
-
You have a moderate to severe bunion (visible bump and big toe deviation)
-
Shoe choices are limited — even “wide” shoes hurt or look bad
-
You have frequent or constant pain at the bunion, big toe, or ball of the foot
-
Numbness, burning, or tingling around the big toe joint is common
-
Over-the-counter pads, wider shoes, or injections no longer help
-
You’re in generally good health and cleared for outpatient surgery
-
You’re tired of watching the bunion get worse every year
Every Lapiplasty® case is tailored to your exact anatomy using intraoperative 3D confirmation, ensuring the root cause is fully corrected the first time — permanently.
At Sarasota Foot Care Center, your podiatrist will guide you through a personalized consultation, explaining each option and recommending the best procedure for your lifestyle, recovery goals, and long-term results.
Your care is our #1 priority.

Your comfort, confidence, and outcome start with a thorough, no-rush consultation at Sarasota Foot Care Center.
During your visit we will:
-
Review your complete medical history and current symptoms
-
Perform a weight-bearing exam and digital X-rays (taken right in the office)
-
Discuss your lifestyle, shoe preferences, activity level, and recovery goals
-
Clearly explain why Lapiplasty® permanently corrects what traditional surgery cannot
-
Answer every question so you leave knowing exactly what to expect
Preparing for Your Lapiplasty® Procedure Once we schedule your surgery, preparation is simple:
-
Arrange for someone to drive you home (procedure is outpatient)
-
Set up a comfortable recovery area on the first floor (minimal stairs the first week)
-
Have loose-fitting shoes or sandals ready
-
Fill any prescribed medications ahead of time
-
Plan light duties or help for the first 7–10 days if needed
Most patients need only a few days of real “downtime” thanks to the immediate weight-bearing protocol. We’ll give you a complete, easy-to-follow checklist so recovery is smooth and stress-free.
PROCEDURE
This is a multi-step procedure that begins by adjusting the midfoot joint back to normal alignment using highly specialized equipment.
Then using a precision guide, a small amount of bone is removed from the unstable joint, and the remaining surfaces are compressed together to form a new, corrected bone position. Finally, titanium plates are attached to the area to maintain alignment and stability of the first metatarsal. The procedure is performed under anesthesia and usually takes about one to two hours.
